HEALTH AWARENESS

HASK through the healthcare system has embarked on a health awareness campaign to improveg general understanding and knowledge about health, healthcare and its services, health needs, diseases, and preventive measures among its catchment areas.

As a result of the intensified COVID-19 awareness campaign, numbers of individuals who have gone for COVID-19 vaccination have increased, with 75% of the catchment population of catholic sisters’ health facilities having been vaccinated, HASK has vaccinated over 150000 people (1.3%) of the Countries total vaccination.

This has helped dimistify myths and misconceptions related to COVID 19 and encouraged uptake of the vaacine.

COVID-19 VACCINATION

HASK has vaccinated over 150000 people (1.3%) of the Countries total vaccination. Our health facilities became testing and vaccination centers for COVID-19 after meeting the compliance requirements by the Kenyan Ministry of Health (MoH) an increase from the initial 32 health facilities.

With the support of 1,500 helpers, including many Catholic nuns who work on the front lines, around five million people are expected to benefit from the vaccination campaign initiative.

PREVENTION OF DISEASES

HASK has helps in prevention of coomunicable such as COVID-19 by conducting public awareness programs for the Covid-19 vaccination campaign, as well as to obtain personal protective equipment (PPE), Covid-19 tests, latex gloves, surgical masks and other support medical aids.

the Association of Sisterhoods in Kenya (AOSK) has launched a six-months Covid-19 prevention and vaccine awareness campaign with the intent to complement the work of the government to realize a “Covid-19 free nation.”

In a press release, the AOSK Executive Secretary Sr. Pasilisa Namikoye noted that the association “applauds the Ministry of Health’s efforts in Covid-19 response and recognizes that a successful war against the pandemic requires both public and private sector’s support in advocacy on the Covid-19 vaccine uptake, provision of essential medical supplies, provision of protective gears and behavior change communication.”

TREATMENT

The health facilities operated by the nuns in almost all 25 dioceses of Kenya are mainly facilities that primarily care for the poor and the weak, which gives the nuns the "advantage of reaching large masses with messages of prevention and vaccination, and treatment of Covid-19.

With an extensive network of 65 hospitals, 90 health centers and 300 dispensaries with an approximate total of 5,837 health workers, of which more than 300 are run by nuns, HASK has the capacity to treat the marginalized poor communities of both COVID-19 and any other related diseases.
